Tuesday 26th February - Fun Print Competition

The ‘fun’ print competition lived up to its name!  The challenge was to produce a print that reflects a book or film title.  Over 40 prints were entered and they featured some excellent photographic and editing skills.  The imagination and inventiveness shown was amazing and just goes to show that we have a healthy sense of humour in the club.

Well done to everyone who entered and special congratulations to Christine and John whose images ‘Duck Soup’ and ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ were voted joint favourites.   In joint third place were Kim’s ‘The Core’ and Margaret’s ‘Lord of the Rings’.  You can enjoy some of the top ten images below.

Sunday 24th February - Kings Lynn with Tim Leonard

Many thanks to Tim for making our club event to Kings Lynn so enjoyable and informative. He took us to many hidden gems of historic architectural and maritime interest which gave us a good variety of photographic opportunities.  Francesca must have felt quite chuffed to see so many club members having a go at ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and, from what I could see, getting some quite remarkable results!  Lunch was an interesting experience - very social, but definitely not gastronomic! I suppose at £10.00 for 2 roast dinners we shouldn't complain.

Thanks to everyone who joined in - I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did and feel inspired to return to KL when the light and temperature are kinder.

12th February: Artistic Photography or Photographic Art - Francesca Shearcroft

Over 40 people were entertained and inspired by Francesca’s presentation.  First she showed us examples of her images, most of them created in camera through Intentional Camera Movement (ICM).  We saw a wide range of ICM effects and there was something for everyone.  Francesca then took us through the basic technical steps of her ICM technique.  From the buzz in the hall, I think many of us will be having a go.  Watch out for a group of 20 photographers walking backwards and waving their cameras up, down and sideways at our club visit to Kings Lynn on 24th February!

You can see a few examples of Francesca’s work below but to enjoy more of her images, click on http://www.francescashearcroftphotos.co.uk/ or use the link on the right hand side of this web page.

5th February: Portrait Photography with David Blake

Many thanks to David Blake for bringing in some of his lighting equipment and backdrops to Tuesday’s meeting at Wells Cole.  David set up three lighting arrangements for us to use.  Using our own cameras, we experimented with different lighting and exposure settings to see the effects that could be achieved.  You can see some images from the evening below.

Thanks also to Mark, Caroline, Jackie and Kim, the brave souls who ‘volunteered’ to be our models under the spotlights.

22nd January: Print Competition Round 2 - Monochrome Open

It was really encouraging to see so many people brave the slushy roads to get to Wells Cole Community Centre for the second round of the Club's print competition.  We were especially pleased that our judge, Joy Hancock, was not deterred by the weather. Joy cast her critical eye over 50+ monochrome prints and provided helpful, constructive comments before giving scores. She also echoed what previous judges have noted, that images from our Club class members are very strong.

Many thanks to everyone who entered a print and congratulations to those whose images were awarded high scores. These images can be seen below.
