Tuesday 22nd February - Competition Round 3 - People

We had a good number of entries for this competition - 17 in Members and 44 in Advanced.  Our judge was Tony Bramley FRPS and he spent plenty of time commenting on images in the Members class carefully identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each image and detailing improvements which could be made.  Tony provided similar feedback for the Advanced images holding back 9 images before awarding his final scores.

The images achieving high scores are shown below.

Fullers Mill and Lackford Lakes - Wednesday 16th February 2022

29 of us decided to ignore the weather warnings and were treated to a wonderfully sunny day - the wind made it a little challenging at times!

Fullers Mill only opens on Wednesdays throughout February for its special snowdrop days so it looked as if virtually every member of the RHS had decided to visit - it was extremely well supported!

It was relative peace and quiet at Lackford Lakes where some more of our members were gathered - again, the wind made conditions quite tricky.

However, I think most of us agreed that actually meeting up and enjoying each other's company was just as important as the photography.

Some images from the day can be seen below:

EAF PDI Championships 2022

29 clubs from the EAF took part in the PDI Championships on Sunday and Wayland finished in joint third place with Cambridge, behind PICO (2nd) and the winners Beyond.  An excellent result!

After the first round of 15 images, we were in third place and managed to hold on to this position through to the end of the competition.

Wayland's entry of 25 images featured work from 10 club members: Graham and Christine Frost, Les Thwaites, Di Jackson, Liz and Nick Akers, Dawn Osborn, Paul and Shirley Radden, David Blake and Stephen Gregory.  Thank you all for your contributions.

Tuesday 8th March – "At the bottom of our garden" by Jayne Odell, FRPS

Not many of us have a race horse training yard at the bottom of our garden, but when Jayne Odell moved into their victorian terrace cottage in Newmarket that's what she found!!

So it was not long before she was down there taking pictures of the various activities that go to make up such a busy place. One thing lead to another and eventually Jayne was asked to go down regularly and take photos for them.  This ultimately led to her panel for FRPS. Jayne's determined action showed through she was referred not once but twice and on the third submission she was successful.

In her presentation Jayne outlined the process for gaining RPS distinctions and also showed her ARPS panel and some some additional images, most of which were based around horses. An inspiring presentation which hopefully will encourage some members to consider an RPS distinction or perhaps just doing a body of work around one topic.

Tuesday 1st February – Focus on...Mobile Phone

It is long-time since we ran a Focus On Competition..but there were 32 entries for this week, images must have been taken on a mobile phone. All members present were the judges and they scored images, excluding their own, out of 20.

There was a clear winner but the others were very close.

After the break Liz Bake ran a quiz. There were 15 photographic questions followed by 15 general knowledge questions. Well done to Paul Radden for winning these two rounds. The answers were given and then we were given clues for an anagram. The winner of which was Tim Leonard.
