26th October 2021 - Competition - Open Colour

Our first competition of this season found us once again utilising Zoom to display our images.  Our judge for the evening, Ralph Duckett MPAGB, EFIAP, APAGB, had 70 images to scrutinise, offer critique and score so a busy evening.

Many thanks to Ralph who provided us with some useful tips and helpful comments. He reminded us to pay attention to detail when presenting images for competition.

A very full evening with some great images for everyone to enjoy some of which can be seen below:

Titchwell Marsh (RSPB) - Thursday 21st October 2021

Thanks to everyone who decided to ignore the rather ominous sounding weather forecast and turn up at Titchwell for our first club event for 20 months.  We were certainly rewarded with an absolutely amazing day!

OK, it was a tad breezy but how exhilarating walking on the beach with the wind whipping up the waves and a total sense of freedom watching the birds struggling with the conditions.  It was quite a challenge capturing any images in the blustery conditions but it was great fun trying.

We decided not to go for a pub lunch just stopping for a quick snack at the cafe and then back to enjoy the rest of the day at Titchwell.

Some of our images from the day can be seen below:

Tuesday 12th October – Back to Basics

It is always helpful to clarify the basics, especially as we have had new members going over the last 18 months. So we welcomed club member Nick Akers and his friends to cover the basics of the exposure triangle.

Despite receiving several apologies there were many members in the hall. Nick explained the basic triangle then each of the next 3 presenters covered one element, showing some great images to illustrate their points. Di Jackson talked about aperture, Liz Akers discussed shutter speed and Dawn Osborn explained ISO. As they all preferred different genres of photography the images were very varied which added to the evening's enjoyment.

After the break Andy Caws showed 30 images as part of a quiz. Well...we did not know as much as we thought and many members were somewhat surprised at their scores. None the less a great evening was had by all. Well done to Roy who won the box of chocolates.

Tuesday 5th October – "I didn't know you could do that in Lightroom", a talk by Joe Houghton

Again we took advantage of Zoom and invited Joe Houghton to come along to WDPC, all the way from Dublin.  Joe is an excellent presenter and unraveled some of the mysteries of Lightroom for us. In the first half he mainly discussed the use of the Library module and ably demonstrated its powerfulness.

In the second half he processed some images in the Develop module and as someone said in the chat "H" is their new go to key as it seems to unlock huge potential is the various facilities within the programme.

Not only did Joe give an excellent presentation but he was more than willing to answer questions as he went along.

We look forward to receiving the recording of Joe's talk so that we can re-visit some of the many intricacies of the programme.

The added bonus was that some of the features he showed us could equally well be applied to other editing programmes.

Tuesday 28th September– presentation by David Steel, "My Type of Photography"

This week we should have had a meeting in the hall but due to fuel issues it was changed to Zoom at the last minute. David  presented an interesting talk with a wide range of images, from black and white to colour, from  portraits to landscapes, not to mention travel and street images.

He was only too willing to share how he had obtained the images and gave us many hints and tips on how to achieve more impactful photos.

He also showed many images of Cube, not just cars but other genres as well, so much so that several members have now added Cuba to their wish list of places to visit.

Some of David's images can be seen on his web site: http://www.minds-eye.org.uk/?page_id=2#
