Results of 2013 Phototrek Challenge

At last night’s meeting the results of the Club’s first Phototrek Challenge were announced accompanied by lots of applause and the odd boo and hiss!

The Phototrek Challenge is a portfolio competition for images taken in Norfolk over the summer months.  There were 12 different categories/themes for entrants to pick from.  Each portfolio consisted of 8 images from different categories.  The images in each category were projected and given a score from 1-5 by three judges which were totalled to give a score for each image.  The entrant with the highest score for their 8 images was declared our Phototrek Champion.

With a total of 108 points, the WDPC 2013 Phototrek Champion is Keith Mountford.  In second place with 96 points is Di Jackson closely followed by Caroline Tillett on 95 points.  Although this was a portfolio competition, it’s interesting to see that the top scoring images in each category came from 9 different photographers.

Well done to all 27 club members who took up the challenge and congratulations to Keith.

Take a few moments to enjoy the top three portfolios and also images from other photographers which gained top scores in their categories.

Sunday 7th July - East Anglian Trophy Trial

The last Event of the Season and what a scorcher it turned out to be!  Not only the high temperature but all the high action photography to capture - quite tricky, contrasty conditions with some of the action taking place in the surrounding woodlands.
Sarah quickly spotted our arrival and showed us round the site pointing out the different sections and possible good view points to capture some great images.  David Wilkin quickly spotted the essential ingredient to make his perfect day out... the bacon roll wagon!  Later reports confirmed that the rolls were "excellent".
It was amazing seeing riders of all ages, genders and skill levels attacking what seemed to be virtually impossible obstacles and terrain - some of us could barely keep our footing just walking the course!

Thanks again Sarah for inviting us to your Event.

Tuesday 2 July - Focus On ... People

Last night’s Focus On … People session attracted 44 images showing people in many different ways.  Club members at the meeting voted for their favourite three images - it’s never an easy task.  Many images had an ‘aah’ factor, some featured people we knew, some were understated, others were ‘in your face’.  After three reviews of the images everyone had their 1st, 2nd and 3rd favourites.  Just to remind you, images voted 1st by members get 3 points, those in 2nd get 2 points and those in 3rd get 1 point.  When all the votes were counted, just three points separated your favourite three images.

1st with 19 points TETE A TETE by Di Jackson
2nd with 18 points BE HAPPY by Robin Orrow
3rd with 17 points AFTER DARK by Andy Caws
4th with 12 points CHALLOIT by John Boekee
5th equal with 11 points DAVID BELLAMY by Roy Scrivener and SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES by David Wilkin

Scroll down to see these images.  Thank you to everyone who entered images and to those who voted on the night.

Our meeting also included an opportunity to see the RPS Creative Group’s DVD kindly supplied by David Ryland, LRPS, who had three images included in the featured digital exhibition.  It was interesting and thought-provoking to see the images that received the top awards in the RPS Creative Group’s digital and print exhibitions.
