Thursday 1st May - Hickling Broad Boat Trip (NWT)

19 club members gathered at Hickling Broad’s visitor centre for our boat adventure - we had exclusive use of both of their electric boats to enable us to get to parts of the Broad that are only accessible by boat.  Although we had plenty of sightings of raptors in flight or skimming over the reed beds they were too far away to get any decent shots.  We were able to get slightly closer to some waders and wildfowl but not close enough for most of us.  In spite of there being fewer birds than we had hoped for, everyone seemed to enjoy the trip and our two drivers from the Norfolk Wildlife Trust were excellent and provided us with some fascinating stories about the history of the Broads and some of the interesting characters involved.

After our day in the fresh air everyone seemed to have got quite an appetite so we made our way to the Greyhound Pub in Hickling village.  In spite of not pre-booking they made us all very welcome and served us with some superb food - a great end to another club outing.
